Khao Kheow Open Zoo, located in Chonburi Province has been a cherished resource for over 60 years. It is the first zoo in Thailand to become a member of WAZA .
The zoo encompasses over 2,000 acres of the Khao Kheow-Khao Chom Puo Wildlife Sanctuary.
The zoo grounds are divided into animal habitats (400 acres), public recreational areas (200 acres) and research area (1,400 acres) which is used for the breeding of various endangered species. Endangered bird species at the zoo include the Black Necked Stork and White Crested Laughing Thrush as two examples.
Rare Asian bird species draw bird watchers from around the world. A walk-though aviary has been built on a mountain slope and presents an appealing environment. The aviary is Asia’s second largest.
Khao Kheow Open Safari is a magnificent blend of forests, wild animals, bird aviary and responsible animal management. Internationally recognized for its animal management and operations, the zoo has features that make it a great day trip for the entire family. More than 300 species and 8,000 animals populate the 2,000 acres sanctuary.

Not only kids but also adult visitors will have a lot of fun visiting a large number of wild life animals in various species attentively raised in there. The animals appear to be well looked after. Zoo is huge, rent a golf car, it’s very reasonably priced and is a fun away to see the animals. Some animals are freed (not caged) and are allowed to take food from their visitors (animal food can be bought almost everywhere in the zoo.) Exhibition area is available for viewing by those who look to learn more about the animals. There also are rare animals' performance, animal feeding shows, etc.
Elephant Trekking – take a ride on this symbol of Thailand. The experience is unique. You spend about 20 minutes riding one of these magnificent animals. Also available: souvenirs, film, food, auto tram, bicycle rental.
Khao Kheow or "Green Hill" is Thailand's famous open zoo built on an entire hill in Sri Racha City near Pattaya. Highly recommend for travelers with small children or anyone who loves animals!! Great place to spend an afternoon.
